I read the post about your Great-Grandfather. This is sad :( I feel sorry for you and I only wish him the best!
Um.. thank you very much.. I guess I can find solace in the fact that my Grandfather is alright with it.. I’ll miss him though.. and his great stories. He used to tell me of when he grew up or so, haha he saw both world wars.. the depression, the civil rights era, reaching the moon, computers, modern cars.. so much, could you imagine seeing all that in your life??.. He used to tell me of how he grew up in a log cabin racing his horse to earn money, then he rode the rails as a hobo and worked every job there was haha.. Sorry for my rant, its just.. yeah.. Thank you once more, it’s deeply appreciated.
I realize people might be mad that Im ‘picking’ on the ‘All Sacred’ Katana here,
First off I’d like to establish that I base all of my knowledge here off of Historical facts, Not Opinions.
So, the Katana;
Katanas in truth are very fragile weapons, one sided and though may look ‘extremely sharp’ to some, in truth are less sharp then they appear compared to other Blades.
Why is this Important? When fighting waves of Zombies you don’t want your blade to break now do you?
Secondly, you know that sword you picked up at a second-hand store or replica? Yeah that’s not that combat worthy.. Probably break, remember your fighting Zombies, they can’t feel pain, will not flinch away, your going for the brain and the Katana doesn’t give much power except at the tip of the blade! Which you will need good room to swing with and you’ll probably need to thrust more than a hundred times which Katanas are never good with an barely can do, and you’ll probably be only using a melee weapon in close quarters! So, Imagine your fighting in an Ally-Way with Zombies all over with out stretched arms and you have to aim precisely with the tip to hit the head!
Your going to be breaking a human skull. And slashing a skull isn’t that easy compared to the soft puncture of one! It requires good honing and is not a good bludgeoning weapon as much as an amputation for limbs And without precision training (Its not going to be hacking) your going to cut your own arm off!
Truthfully I’d go for a Chainsaw if you had to get near a Zombie, but if you want a sword;which sword is highly more durable? Has the power and is still sharp enough? and offers options incase you have to back hand it because Katanas are only a single bladed weapon..!
So, Historical: A good Western sword, maybe a Bastard-Sword, not too heavy, doesn’t require two hands and are ten times more durable than a Historical Katana and ten times Sharper and were often used to batter as well as slash and sometimes thrust.. Basically its an overall sword, sometimes double edged from the best of my knowledge which can help big time.
What would I suggest?
Well when it comes to Zombies the point is NOT to get close since they can kill you with even a scratch, if I was to get close I’d use the Chainsaw, something that can rip limbs in a heartbeat. Gun wise a shotgun uses to much of its ammo too fast, if your having swarms, truthfully Im not the most ideal when it comes to gun knowledge but look for a large capacity and something you can bet your life on.
And if this was of my choice Scenario, I would choose not to engage Zombies in the first place and find a Military Reserve base or so and get into an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) that’s tightened up and not easy to break yet nothing can go under and cut the wires either since its low to the ground. So no messing around since many also carry heavy guns!..
But if you are stuck on the ground, find friends with skills and not cry-babies like you see in ever film and are survivalists. Don’t be stupid and eat everything in sight and poison yourself, make sure you check your water (Could be contaminated!) and hold out or at least make your way to a safe vehicle then make your way to some Bunker or wherever others are that are organized.
